IBW Client Success: Long Island Children’s Museum

Written by hehlert | May 19, 2022

IBW client Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) recently received accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums! Accreditation is recognized as the field's gold standard for museum excellence and signifies a museum’s quality, credibility and its deep commitment to mission and community.

This accreditation is the highest national recognition from the American Alliance of Museums. LICM is the only accredited children’s museum in the state of New York and 1 of only 16 accredited children’s museums in the country. Less than 3% of our nation’s more than 30,000 museums have earned this recognition, and they undergo a rigorous process that includes examination of all aspects of a museum’s operations. LICM joins the ranks of nationally recognized museums such as The Smithsonian, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.

LICM celebrated this hard-earned honor with a community celebration – welcoming guests for a free day of play and inviting children to build the “Ultimate Trophy” – by adding iconic childhood items – slinkies, pinwheels, rubber ducks and stickers – to a five-foot gold “trophy” to celebrate this milestone.

LICM’s mission is to connect all our communities’ children, and those who care for them, to a life of wonder, imagination and exploration. At LICM, children discover their passions and their relationship to the world we share. The 40,000-square-foot museum welcomes nearly 275,000 children and annually. The private, not-for-profit institution chartered by the New York State Board of Regents, offers museum-based educational programs and cultural experiences, as well as an extensive community outreach program offered in schools, libraries and youth centers across Long Island.

Congratulations LICM!
