Lee Evans, former dean of the Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy, is joining the consulting team at iBossWell, Inc. Dr. Evans will bring the lessons and insights gained through 44 years of experience as a faculty member, college administrator, and CEO Dean to his new role as a consultant offering coaching and professional development support to leaders in academic administration.
“One thing I discovered during my career, the higher you go in academic administration, the fewer people there are to talk to about the issues or opportunities you face,” Evans said. “Traditionally there’s not been a lot of support or mentoring offered to people in academic leadership. I felt that gap over the years in my career. My personal utilization of a coach was always helpful. Becoming a part of the consulting team at iBossWell gives me a chance to provide academic leaders what I looked for: an impartial sounding board, a mentor to talk through critical issues and goals, and an advisor who expands understanding of what leadership means and then helps enhance leadership skills.” Dr. Evans was recently certified in The Leadership Circle’s 360 Assessment process. “I completed a 360 assessment as part of the certification. It helped me identify aspects of my personal leadership style that served me well, as well as those that likely made me less effective,” he said. “The coaching I received post-assessment revealed pragmatic ideas for working with my personal leadership style to make it more effective. It was an enlightening experience and one that I think will deepen the insight I can bring to my work with academic leaders.”
Denise McNerney, CEO of iBossWell, Inc. said the decision to add Dr. Evans to the consulting team was an easy one. “Lee is a visionary leader. His career has been conducted in parallel with seismic change in health care, which means he’s spent a lot of time thinking about the future of pharmacy and the adaptations colleges of pharmacy have to make to ensure students are appropriately prepared. He’s a change agent who understands the challenges inherent in a role where the dean may be the admiral of the fleet, yet every faculty member is also the captain of their own independent ship. We think his combination of future focus and hard won experience will make him an appealing resource to other academic leaders. I know he will be a valuable addition to the work the iBossWell team does to develop leaders, teams, and organizational culture, and a great support to our strategic planning efforts.”
Dr. Evans recently retired as dean of the school of pharmacy at Auburn University, a position he held for 23 years. Prior to he spent 19 years at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he taught and served as chairman of the Division of Pharmacy Practice. During his long and distinguished career, Dr. Evans has held numerous positions in the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, including Chair of Council of Deans. He has presented papers and workshops on topics ranging from best practices in medication use and management to envisioning and preparing for the future of the pharmacy profession at conferences and workshops across the country.

Another return engagement with Nonprofit Connect. In this repeat of our popular program, we'll explore the connection between mission impact and financial sustainability. The workshop will walk organizations interested in determining what to do more of/less of, or what to start doing/stop doing, through a process for conducting an in-depth comparative assessment of individual programs/services and other lines of business. Participants will learn how to evaluate programs/services collectively, comparing mission-impact and financial sustainability, and how to use that objective data to inform strategic decision-making. Reserve your seat on the Nonprofit Connect Website.
June 6: Creating Meaningful, Measureable Performance Indicators
Telling a story is one thing. Demonstrating program outcomes or impact is something else entirely. In this new workshop presented through Nonprofit Connect, we talk about the challenges and benefits of the sometimes imperfect science of performance measurement. We'll review examples of progress indicators being used by organizations across the nonprofit sector to track everything from program impact to financial sustainability. The session includes dedicated time for participants to work independently or in small groups to define/refine the performance indicators for their organization. We presented this for the first time in March 2017 and the workshop sold out quickly. Check out the Nonprofit Connect calendar for details and to reserve your seat.

Join IBW CEO Denise McNerney in Portland, OR this October for two thought-provoking workshops at the 10th annual Leadership Academy hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
From Intention to Impact: Mission-Aligned Strategic Thinking and Leadership
It’s easy to fall prey to mission creep, or to be distracted by the next shiny new thing, especially in fundraising. This workshop will address how to lead in alignment with an organization’s mission, and with a compelling vision and focus. The workshop will provide tips and insights for developing successful strategic thinking, leadership and influence. It will also make the case for developing and implementing focused strategies in both fundraising and for the overall direction of the organization.
Leading without Authority
One of the greatest challenges a fundraiser faces is the dilemma of needing to influence and persuade others to support fundraising efforts in situations where they have little authority or no leadership position over the people they are trying to engage. As nonprofit organizations continue to flatten their structures, more employees are finding themselves in positions where they are leading teams or projects without direct authority over the other staff members involved. Leading without authority may seem impossible, but it happens every day. Learn how in this workshop that will focus on skills and techniques participants can use to help them become successful leaders and influencers in their organizations regardless of role or title.

iBossWell CEO, Denise McNerney, received the Janis Laureen Outstanding Service Award at the Association for Strategic Planning's 2013 national conference in Atlanta on April 23, 2013. Denise was recognized for her leadership in designing, conducting and analyzing the first large scale national survey on strategic planning practices in the nonprofit sector.
As chairman of the Survey Committee, Denise was engaged in the development of the survey tool and the in-depth analysis of responses. She presented preliminary survey results at the 2012 ASP conference and was a member of a panel that unveiled detailed conclusions at the 2013 conference. The survey, co-sponsored by the Association for Strategic Planning and the University of Arkansas, was distributed to 25,000 nonprofit professionals and consultants who work in that sector.
"The survey underscores what I have long believed to be the most effective practices for developing and implementing a strategic plan," Denise says. "I'm proud to have been part of the effort that finally brings solid evidence to the table about those practices and ultimately advances the strategy profession."
In the presentation at the Awards Ceremony, Denise was recognized for "(E)fforts over the past two plus years that have made a significant contribution to validating the value of strategic planning and implementation in non-profit organizations. Her research brings the evidence that consistent planning and disciplined plan implementation efforts have significant positive impact on overall organizational performance and sustainability… Her countless hours of effort and effective actions has positioned ASP as a credible research agency and raised the bar on the quality of strategic planning and implementation."
